Research in our lab aims to uncover fundamental principles of biological control design. We combine quantitative behavioural studies, electrophysiological techniques, and anatomical analyses to study the neural mechanisms and morphological constraints of stabilization reflexes involved in gaze and flight control.

We work on insect model systems which are complex enough to address questions of general interest and simple enough to obtain conclusive answers. A strong emphasis lies on comparative studies to extract both general principles across species and species-specific adaptations to biological control.
